New York, NY (October 2, 2017) – Sommelier Keir Carter, founder and CEO of Pair Wine Tours, the top-rated wine tour company in the New York City metropolitan area, has joined forces with world class chefs, Pierre Thiam, Serge Pambo, and Victor Bongo to host the VIP dinner for the James Beard Foundation sponsored by New York African Restaurant Week.
New York African Restaurant Week takes place from October 1st – 22nd in New York City. It is a premier citywide food festival that celebrates the best in African cuisine and culture. Since launching in 2013 with a handful of restaurants and increasing enthusiasm, New York African Restaurant Week has grown into a 3-week thrilling celebration, with over 25 participating restaurants in Manhattan and Brooklyn offering discounted prix-fixe traditional African and avant-garde Afro-fusion menus.
According to Keir, “For too long, South African wines have been looked over. People don’t generally think of Africa when it comes to food and wine pairing culture. It’s an oversight that merits correcting. Wine has been grown in South Africa since 1659, with vineyards benefiting from coastal breezes from both the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans. The rich flavors that these wines possess are the perfect foil for the deeply flavored, spiced flavors of the African continent.
It’s my pleasure to present examples of these wines, and pair them with the beautiful dishes of Africa, prepared by some of the most talented chefs cooking today.”
The dinner theme is “Odyssey Across Africa” at The Beard House in New York City. Tickets to the dinner are available for the general public for $175. The menu and additional information can be found on the James Beard Foundation website. The majority of the proceeds will be donated to the James Beard Foundation.

About the James Beard Foundation
The James Beard Foundation is at the forefront of America’s culinary community. The prestigious culinary arts organization was established in 1986 in honor of James Beard, a cookbook author, television personality, and teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge about food. Beard was a champion of American cuisine and is widely considered “the dean of American cookery.” He helped educate and mentor generations of professional chefs and food
enthusiasts, instilling in them the value of wholesome, healthful, seasonal, and delicious food.
Today JBF continues in the same spirit by administering a number of diverse programs that include food industry awards, scholarships and grants for culinary students, publications, chef advocacy training, and thought-leader convening. The Foundation also maintains the historic James Beard House in New York City’s Greenwich Village as a “performance space” for
America’s best chefs. For additional information on the James Beard Foundation, visit www.jamesbeard.org.
